youth violence

my step-father is nearly 70 years old. yesterday afternoon he noticed some teenagers across the street. 3 young men about 16-17 years old. one youth was beating up what looked like an 11 year old [or there abouts]. at times, my step-father forgets that he is no longer a 20 something. across the street he goes, demanding that these young men leave the boy alone. we are maori and were raised in a certain manner. for us, my step-father is off limits, as far as dissing and violence is concerned. you just don't do it. even if he is in the wrong. the youngster just walks away. it is culture.
this young man is also maori. shame upon shame, he raised his hand and struck an old man [5 times]! he is a gang affiliate [black power].
be embarrassed black power. be ashamed. you have allowed a youngster in your gang to trample on your mana. he attacked a kaumatua.
fortunately, my step-father is fine.
and then i found this. i don't really agree with it. but i can see how some would.

Shane I felt sick reading this post. I am so sorry for your stepfather. He is a brave man stepping in like that.
But its nothing to do with being Maori.........youth violence is hurting all walks of life.

I have to wonder where this data comes from. There is substantial eveidence that some people have a pre-disposition for addictive behavior, i.e. alcoholism, such as myself. I'm Irish and Indian, two races that have a supposed inclination for allergy to alcohol. You have to wonder though. I would hope that it is a false statement. Your step-father is a brave man. It is called uncommon valor, some of us have it, some of us don't. He must, God Bless him!

yeah he does. he won't accept the limitations of his age though. the gene thing. well, i think it's crap really. it is being refuted quite strenuously in our media today.

70 or not, it's good to be a real man, i'm glad he's ok, my dad was the same way, not a mean bone in his body and scared of nothing, in the grand scheme of things that boy hurt himself more than he hurt your step father. i would like to know more about your Maori culture.
