resisting the browning of "aotearoa"

"don" is at it again. as usual he has under-estimated the level of intelligence that the average kiwi brings to the table. we know the constant maori bashing is just an attempt to get the public to look at something other than his incompetence as a leader of a political party. unfortunately, this behaviour is at the level of a primary aged child who tries hard to get the teacher to look elsewhere when he/she is caught red handed. then of course "helen" will attack him some more so that the party faithful will rally around their beloved leader. that way [she thinks] national will saddle itself with his incompetence for another misjudged election. da "bros" reckon don and helen are just a couple of "dicks" who dunno "shit" bout da iwi. "an dat 'don' fullah is a few stones short of a hangi."
national leader don brash has been accused of using the same argument against maori that was used in the united states in the 1700s when black people were denied civil rights.

the browning continues

this is worth a read. they're all as bad as each other.

the browning of aotearoa

i see don brash has been flogging the race card again. it's a real statement on where he sits regarding maori who are indigenous to new zealand.
he's upset
tariana turia and pita sharples again too. she [tariana] stood him up for dindins. it doesn't matter don, how many times you say it. we [maori] will not cease to exist. the browning of aotearoa is taking place even though you don't like it. just face it don, and learn to deal with us honestly.

b'day

andrew was 7 today! all the family little uns were present and helped him demolish as much rubbish food as they could possibly manage. you could imagine what bed time was like. trying to get a whole pile of junked up kids to settle down for a sleep!
actually, as an uncle, i didn't have to worry, and i could spend my time being mildly amused as my bro's tried to get their kids organised. there was a mild panick as nelle [ms 5] challenged andrew to a duel with plastic swords. she fair wacked him one too. after a rueful ow! on andrew's part, i said. "oh well m8, if you're gonna play with the swords, with nelle. you had to know she'd be a danger." he could only agree. he decided to put them away. all quiet now.....

too little too late

too little too late. men have walked away from the profession, too risky, small pay, no balance. who needs it. it's gonna take more than this to redress the problem.
teachers' physical contact rules relaxed
: then there's this from the post primary sector. why would a male subject himself to the abuse and disrespect of the system and later on, the students? it just doesn't make sense.

teaching

having breakfast this morning and listening to the radio. a call from the ministry of education. "we need more men in early childhood education." the numbers of males in the system are now down to less than 1%. the risk of being accused of child abuse, the low level salary structure, the "pc" stance of the education system in new zealand, are hardly what one could call "motivating." yes, there is definitely a male perspective lacking in our education system. but if you think we will work under current conditions, you're dreaming.

knowledge

i have been reading the comments on "tumeke" [saturday sept 23rd 2006] and feel that this quote answers the attitudes displayed by many.

"
The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.... The chain reaction of evil — hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars — must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation."
martin luther king.

nz politics

who'd want to be a politician? i guess they start off on the wrong foot anyway. most of them [in nz] seem to be lawyers. that's a pretty dubious profession to start with. i'm not really sure why or how they manage to get our votes in the first place. they are such a bunch of liars.
the prevailing attitude in nz politics, seems to be that you must not have a christian philosophy in your life or your politics. i reckon that opens the political system up for some scurrilous behaviour right from the start. on the other side we have the "
exclusive brethren." busily passing judgement, making background noises and generally slipping the knife in from the shadows. wierd for a christian group. the fact that the leader of the opposition is in bed with them [but is at pains to point out that he can never remember what they discuss] does give me cause for concern.
one side [labour/helen clarke] is being financially corrupt. the other [national/don brash] is being morally corrupt. it gives me pause to consider they old saying "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely." we are being lead without vision, without morality, and without courage by a group of power hungry, machiavelian miscreants with the behaviour patterns of a spoilt two year old. it's a bit of a worry.

ar-soles

it's ok. don't worry yourselves. i promise it's gonna be alright.
pak 'n save [or as we call it,
pak 'n slave] have insisted that jenaya johnston get those damn streaks out of her hair. they were worried that the sheer ebullience[phew big word] of the 15 year old girl might have a negative influence on their rather conservative customers. their esteemed leader, field reichmarshall herr kerry stanley was quite clear that teen exuberancy [another big word, i'm going through the "e's"] is not to be tolerated. he requested she "downpimp" her locks by the 22nd of september or "face zee hair gestapo." failure to comply will leave him no choice but to pull her hair out strand by strand "vis zee tweezers." in the interest of fair play and even handedness [yuk yuk yuk], herr stanley has allowed jenaya to pay for the recolouring of her hair.

a job offer [coaching again]?

"on some positions, cowardice asks the question, "is it safe?" expediency asks the question, "is it politic?" and vanity comes along and asks the question, "is it popular?" but conscience asks the question "is it right?" and there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right." [martin luther king].
i have been there a few times in the last few years. it has cost me dearly. friends, colleagues and i think, family. once more into the deep dark unknown i might go..... at least it isn't boring.

a convenient truth

the upshot gained [for moi] of the previous post seems to be .....
we gotta stop crapping on ourselves, our friends, our neighbours, our enemies, our communities, our countries and our planet. it all begins at home. give out a hug. they're free.

an inconvenient truth

i have had several discussions today. especially around the state of our society here in new zealand or as we call it, aotearoa. living here in the thriving metropolis of naenae, one gets to see first hand, the pain and degradation that can be suffered by the ethnic and lower socio-economic population of many countries. drugs, alchohol, poverty, lack of leadership, lack of community, a moral degradation that is shocking and truly noticable in our disaffected youth, a disconnection with empathy that is scary, and in new zealand, we are relatively safe!
tonight, my folks [who are approaching the 70-80 age group], are holed up in their home worrying about the youths wandering around the streets in gangs, tagging, robbing and generally standing over [intimidating] the populace.
last night, al gore said something that has really stuck with me all day and is with me still. he was of course referring to global warming. but it applies all round.
"as long as the salaries of the rich and powerful are dependant on the status quo, there will be no change." think about it..........

very mmm

i have just seen "an inconvenient truth." something to think about. gonna sleep on it.

well i never

the naenae arm of the indumbitably challenged "black powder" gang seems to get more sex than everyone else. they like hip hop [a prerequisite]. this study was done in the u.k. it's important information and sets the future direction of naenae-kind. can't make up my mind. is it a plus or a minus? i guess if you're 14, it's a plus. if you use both brain cells in your daily gyrations, it could be a minus. people who like classical music smoke dope! mmm, i wonder if don brash is a naenae-ite incognito?
hahahahahaha...............

thanks for that john. hope they get their "work thru" done soon.

lonelygirl15
there's quite a story in new zealand at the mo about "lonelygirl15" on youtube. she's the slightly goofy 16 year old reporting on the teenage angst stuff a 16 year old would be going through. yahoo for for rose from tauranga, new zealand for such a brilliant show. kiwis eh.
ka pai girl. big ups to ya'll.

te warewhare
far out! tindalls trying to buy back te warewhare?

sunday

sunday has been and is nearly gone. i got yelled at :-( so i vacated my space and went to the movies and the only thing showing was, "doa." its a girly martial arts movie. oh no what crap they can make. the afternoon was better as me and my m8 the painter went out for a coffee [flat whites in a bowl] and then down to the beach to get some free firewood. when we got back we thought we'd put a punga tree in his front yard. it was awesome. it looks great. it's about 4 metres tall and took four of us to stand it up in the hole he'd dug. oh what a feeling of satisfaction. yup. that was a good bit.
the radio has been running hot. we're all totally disgusted with the childish behaviour of our governing bodies. what a bunch of reprobates. they are dishonest and totally devoid of any kind of responsible attitudes. our government is full of shyte. both the governing parties AND the opposition parties. it seems most members of parliament are lawyers, and they cannot be trusted. funny that.
i wonder when they will finally be called to account?
pah! and my vodafone wireless internet connection sucks.

the chef, the player, and the sweet potato

it started off this morning (9am) putting together my first attempt at a pot roast in the slow cooker. never one to cope with exactitude when it comes to recipes, it's always an event when the food hits the plate. it turned out ok. taste wasn't bad. have had a few ideas for next saturday's effort. start with a superior cut of beef i think. the sweet potatoes worked too. i don't think the garlic worked. not too sure though.
watching our national provincial rugby on tv. the nephew (corey) is playing for bay of plenty. gives it an interest level the other games don't have.

as it is in heaven

sometimes a movie is made and they just get it right. it's called "as it is in heaven."about a successful international conductor who suddenly interrupts his career and returns alone to his childhood village in norrland, in the far north of sweden. it doesn't take long before he is asked to come and listen to the fragment of a church choir, which practises every thursday in the parish hall. just come along and give a little bit of good advice. he can't say no, and from that moment, nothing in the village is the same again. the choir develops and grows. he makes both friends and enemies. and he finds love. everyone in the theatre was spellbound. it was directed by: kay pollak
and starred: michael nyqvist, frida hallgren, lennart jähkel. impressive.

two days - stuffed

this will be funny for some. i have been working in a fairly physical manner with the bro for the last two days and i am stuffed. i have been humping buckets of self leveling compound upstairs so the bro can level out some under tile heating, which will of course, be tiled over. walking upstairs with buckets weighing 30 - 35kg became quite tiring after about the 5th time. a poor unfit guitar playing book writing author like me is knackered. at least i'm not sore, just tired. i keep telling myself it's good for me. last night i was in bed asleep at 8pm! bit of a laugh really. next week it's max's [little bro kane's boy] birthday. another trip to maccas for us. i shall buy him the required book and leave the junk to others. yaaaaaaawn! early to bed again. g'night.

tamagochi-ise your life

they're back. the evil has returned. tamagochi [i wonder if i spelt that right?] cyber pets/babies/dolls that encourage children to bond with non-humans. they respond to the click of a button and there are no consequences for forgetting to feed them, or not looking after them correctly, except that they'll [cyber] die. but don't worry, you can just start it up again. i reckon they have a profound effect on children's ability to socialise or relate to others. the so-called inventor has to answer for this evil toy. i hope all his chooks die. may a thousand nanni-goats shit on his head a thousand times from a thousand feet. i hope his nose cankers and drops off.
you might get the message that i'm not that tamagochi friendly. you'd be right. our kids have got them aaaargh!
hey babs. evidently i can't post a comment at your place cause i have switched to beta-blog. how naff is that? evidently the facility is coming. my comment was. 'the "big fullah," of course he did it.'

where to next

i have been sitting around this evening wondering. what comes next? what is important? what might i do with the next ten years, if in fact, there is a next ten years to be had? i suppose that it is fairly common at 49 to be concerned about the life i have lead. mid-life crisis and all that.
after having a good look at my mortality, i find that my motivation right now, is not what you would call strong regarding the prolonging of this existance as it currently is. i am not looking to expire, but i do need a change, a challenge, a passion. far out, i'm bored.
i find myself tired of the same old stuff. trouble is, at 49, the confidence is not high when it comes to change. bugger. i'd hoped for a more settled mid-life. who organised this shit?
it might have been me :-(

good advice

it was heard on morning television this morning..... "diapers, like politicians, should be changed regularly, and for the same reasons."
